John Hockings is an Australian artist. His paintings are held in collections across Australia and internationally, and by the Queensland Art Gallery.
John Hockings' most recent work blends abstraction and figuration. The subject matter draws from the Australian coastal landscape and the people and objects which populate and reform it. Through an often awkward juxtaposition of these seemingly ordinary aspects of the world, his paintings explore what leads to a sense of place and the way the act of painting can move us to reconsider our understanding of the familiar world.
He is represented in Queensland by the Woolloongabba Art Gallery and in NSW by Michael Reid Northern Beaches.
